There are major differences between a wage and a gift. A wage is the earned payment for work that is done and is our legal right, while a gift is freely given out of love and entirely based on the giver’s grace.

The salvation that Jesus offers us is His free gift of grace, which cannot be earned or bought by human effort, good works, moral compliance, religious rituals, or self‑punishment.

The wages of sin is death, and Jesus paid that wage when He took our sins upon Himself and died on our behalf. He rose again from the dead and now offers His gift of righteousness to anyone who believes in Him.
