The background to this verse is the total moral collapse among the people of God. From God's perspective everyone - including the religious leaders - was obsessed with worldly wealth and sought it through dishonest means.

Instead of calling out their sins, repenting and turning to God, the prophets and the priests preached peace and prosperity even when God's judgement was close at hand.

​

As children of God let's choose contentment over covetousness, integrity over dishonesty and faithfulness instead of unfaithfulness.
